What to get?

Postby bdodds830 on Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:37 pm

OK i'm not really tech savvy but do enjoy a bit of tech. I have had my iphone 3G now for about 18 months. I have really enjoyed using this phone however I now think I am ready for a change.

So my dream gadget is a computer that is a bout 5" in size. I know this really isn't feasable and wouldn't work but I like the concept.

Aswell as considering a smartphone I have considered a UMPC/MID but these are generally too big or else too expensive. I so hoped the apple tablet would have full

OS and be about 7" but it wasn't to be so I have decided to go for a smartphone instead.

An aspect that I really liked about the iphone was the online support, by that I mean the possibilities with it seemed endless with the remote acces through Mocha VNC and also the jailbreaking (sorry maybe I shouldn't mention jailbreaking here but I did it because I really wanted tom see what the iphone could do.

So I really ask you which smartphoen out there now including phones that were seen at MWC 2010 act most like a small laptop that are relatively high powered and allow for tinkering. I don't really mind whether its got a qwerty kb or not as long as its decent for typing. I'd prefer capacitive to resistive but its not a must have and as far as price goes i'm willing to look at anything, it really all depends on how it fits the bill.

So sorry guys for the long post and sorry if its confusing just wanted to explain what I meant.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated . Thx in advance!

The Dell Mini 5 is an Android tablet with 5" capacitive screen, that can also be used to make calls. There's no word yet on when it will be available (should be reasonably soon) or how much it will cost, but is a really impressive piece of kit. http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/02/25/dell.tablet/

Yeh thanks m8, I have seen this on the engadget forums and it looked promising however i just wasn't sure of any of the details as far as pricing and release date. I reckoned it could be s good 4 months before it was released and I have no idea of the price.

So does anyone have even a rough idea of how long it will be before the dell mini 5 will be released or how much it will cost?

Also is there much hackibility with android like there is with the iPhone because I really like to tinker with stuff and don't like having to use the basic android AppStore apps?

Again thx in advance
