For the discerning smartphone user it couldn’t be easier. There are GPS utilities for all platforms that simply work with your reported position, in order to help you remember locations and (crucially) how to get back to them.
This sounds a bit geeky, but in a real world situation it’s ideal for marking where you left the car, or where your tent was pitched, even if there are no roads for miles. With most mapping software being so focussed on roads, a generic utility which doesn’t favour any one position over any other can be very useful.
Especially if you like the outdoor life.
On an S60 device, the functionality’s all built-in. Go to the ‘GPS data’ application and use ‘Save position’ on any of its menus.
Then, in the ‘Navigation’ screen, simply use ‘Set destination’ and you’ll be guided in towards your destination location – in a straight line, so watch out for obstacles in the way!
