Sony Handycam HDR-XR520: GPS-enabled camcorder reviewed

We’ve seen GPS receivers embedded in cameras before, as well as available as add-ons, and they are of course commonplace in smartphones where you can easily add location data to your photos and see where they were taken on a map. (You can even use them for navigation on devices such as the Garmin nuvi 765t.) But the Sony Handycam HDR-XR520 is a first – a GPS-enabled digital camcorder.
TrustedReviews has the lowdown. Although while the camera itself impresses the GPS feature seemingly doesn’t:
“The most unusual feature, however, is the built-in GPS. Geotagging pictures is becoming increasingly popular, but the XR520 also contains reasonably detailed maps of a large proportion of the world.
Assuming the camcorder’s GPS is getting a signal, coordinates will be stored with your footage, so you can see where the video was shot, and browse clips alongside a map showing this. Although we can see useful applications for the GPS features, it’s mostly a gimmick in its current form.”

This cam has only data maps for
* Europe
* North America
* Oceania
* Japan
I live in Argentina, and it doesnt support to add any maps, so i can´t use it. I’s a pity when adding maps is so easy with other devices.
