European MPs have agreed a deal that looks set to slash the cost of using a mobile phone abroad throughout Europe

European MPs have agreed a deal that looks set to slash the cost of using a mobile phone abroad throughout Europe. So long as the deal is ratified by the European Parliament and each member state, prices for making calls, sending texts and using data overseas will be reduced incrementally over the next three years, by a significant margin.
The new prices will be:
SMS: capped at 11 cents (10p)
Outgoing calls:
July 2009 – 43 cents per minute (40p)
July 2010 – 39 cents per minute (36p)
July 2011 – 35 cents per minute (32p)
Data charges:
July 2009 – 1 euro per megabyte (93p)
July 2010 – 80 cents per megabyte (75p)
July 2011 – 50 cents per megabyte (46p)
