There are some games that seem so obvious it’s hard to believe they were only recently discovered.

Ragdoll Kung Fu was one, released only in 2005 but an instant hit and now effectively parodied by Stick Fu. Featuring 5 environments and stylised, minimalist graphics, you start off with only basic punches and kicks but success in the earlier rounds gives you Combo points that can be used to unleash more impressive attacks.

You’ll probably need these when you face off against the Boss characters at the end of each level as they boast faster reactions and moves. When you win, however, you can boost your own stats with extra Power, Defence or Hit Points.

Stick Fighter is another game that seems perfectly suited to the iPhone, combining distinctive and colourful graphics with simple touchscreen controls. You can also choose from the soundtrack or playing tracks from your own music library. It’s a pity that you have to keep cycling through the same locations, but hopefully there’ll be a swift sequel with more of everything.

In the meantime, with either give the free Lite version a bash or, at only 60p for the full game, take our word for it.
