Review: Griffin RoadTrip for iPhone
by Andy Betts, posted Thursday 26 November 2009

With your entire music collection stored on your iPod or iPhone, some means of playing that back in the car is a must. With RoadTrip you can do exactly that. The device connects to a free frequency on your car stereo and plays the audio back through your car’s speakers.
RoadTrip uses the SmartScan technology to ease the process of setting the device up in your vehicle. Instead of needing to manually find a free frequency – a challenge in itself in some larger cities – SmartScan will automatically find and store the best ones so that you should be able to avoid too much interference even as you drive from one area to another.
The device itself is small, with a gooseneck mount so you can maneuvre it into an accessible position, and there are basic music control buttons on the device as well, ensuring you don’t need to fiddle with any of the iPhone controls as you drive. The device connects to your car’s cigarette lighter socket and charges as you go. It’s held in a reasonably secure position.
Audio quality is generally very good. It can be affected by your location, but when you get a clear signal it is certainly superior to any other similar system we have used. The price is also touch higher than many other systems, although as something that is likely to become one of your most used gadgets still represents good value.
