How to: Access Facebook on a BlackBerry

Do you use Facebook to stay connected to friends and colleagues? Facebook for BlackBerry lets you stay logged in to your account while away from the desktop

Facebook for BlackBerry gives you wireless access to your Facebook account. Once logged in, you can stay in touch with friends while away from the desktop and be notified immediately of new Facebook events such as wall posts, messages or pokes. You can even use the application to upload and share photos with your friends.

Login
The first step is to download the Facebook for BlackBerry application. Point your desktop browser to www.blackberry.com/go/facebook and follow the download instructions. Install the application using BlackBerry Desktop Manager and then reset your device. Boot up your new application by opening the Applications screen and clicking the Facebook icon. Type your login information and then click Login.

Set status
The next step is to set your status. To do this, press the Menu key and click View Status Updates. Type a status, click Update, press the Menu key and then click Close. As long as you remain logged in, you can now trade messages with your Facebook friends just like you would on a computer at home. You will also receive notifications for new Facebook events such as wall posts, messages or pokes the moment they arrive on your Blackberry’s Home screen.

Invite a friend
You can now invite someone to become a friend while mobile. On the Notification list screen, press the Menu button and then click Invite a Friend (Fig 3). If the person’s details are stored in your address book, type part of the name, click the contact when it appears and click Invite. If the person is not in your address book, simply type an email address.

Upload snapshots
If your BlackBerry has a camera, you can upload snapshots taken while away from the desktop. Uploading images to your Facebook account is easy. Open Media, select Pictures>My Pictures and then highlight a snapshot that you want to share. Press the Menu key, select the Send to Facebook command, type a caption and click Upload.
