Guide to Google Gears for Mobile

Mobility is about 24/7 connectivity, right?
Well, not exactly. To be more specific, mobility is about 24/7 access, and this can be online or offline. Windows Mobile users are well aware that connected devices can radically change the way that they work and wireless services such as Wi-Fi, 3G and HSDPA enable us to access documents and applications from just about anywhere.
But what if the signal is interrupted, lost or just not available? We have all experienced data disconnections at times and the frustration that this causes can be difficult to bear.
So what’s the solution? Essentially an open-source browser extension, Google Gears for Mobile is an application programming interface (API) that gives developers the tools to overcome obstacles such as dropped connections and to create web-based applications and services that provide offline functionality.
Currently only available for the Internet Explorer Mobile browser, Gears is designed primarily to let Windows Mobile users continue working with Gears-enabled web applications, services and documents in the absence of a network connection.
