How to: Get started with BlackBerry Messenger 5.0

BlackBerry Messenger is one of the major advantages of the platform and the recent release of version 5.0 has added a stream of new features which are not obvious when you first load it up. Besides the new look you now get access for groups which you can set up or join, and you can also scan group barcodes to join with a click of the trackball.

Avatars make a welcome appearance alongside the ability to backup conversations to an expansion card and other features such as GPS locations and a proximity sensor. There’s a lot to explore and it’s even better than it was before.

Go to www.blackberry.com/messenger and install the latest version.

Once running you will need to go to ‘My Profile’ and select an image for your avatar.

You can now scan group barcodes or set up a group for you and your friends.
