How to: Remote wipe your Windows phone

There is no doubt that a mobile device, whether used for business or pleasure, will contain important data and information. However, the moment a device gets mislaid or even worse, stolen the data and information are at risk.

This is where mSafe makes itself indispensable. The mSafe app can lock the device or delete data with one single SMS message. In addition the device can be set up to be locked down when it’s powered off, after it is reset and when the SD card is removed.

How does it do it? The owner simply spends an SMS message to the device with the appropriate instruction and trigger name. For example, mSafe lock Dety59, this states the app, the condition and the appropriate trigger password.

Step 1: Download mSafe
Download the mSafe software. Unzip the folder and install via the desktop with msafe_setup.exe. Alternatively, transfer msafe_inst_sp.CAB to a device and install.

Step 2: SMS lock trigger
To use mSafe, assign a SMS lock trigger via Start>Programs>mSafe and tap the SMS lock trigger button. Tap the Lock when receive SMS check box and add a password to the SMS lock trigger box.

Step 3: Wipe on SMS
The SMS lock trigger also has the option to wipe data. Tap the Wipe when receive SMS check box and add a password. Remember to choose a different password to the lock option.

Step 4: Assign password
Before the mSafe software can be put into action a system password need to be assigned. Go to Start>Settings and select Lock via the Personal. Tap the Prompt check box and add a Password, Confirm and tap ok to apply.

Step 5: Lock settings
Now open mSafe to reveal Lock Settings and SMS Settings. Use the keyboard to tap A and open the settings. Now choose one or more of the three available options to configure the circumstances where the lock will be activated.

Step 6: SMS settings
Use the keyboard to tap B and open the SMS settings. This will reveal the previous settings added. Tap the Reply to Sender check to get an SMS message back when lock or wipe has been performed.
