Photo management is usually left to the computer. As smartphones become more powerful and sport larger resolution screens, some of those tools are starting to make their way to the mobile device.

Smartphones are become more powerful with faster CPUs and more on-board memory.  For example the latest BlackBerry Curve 8900 has 256 Mb. on-board memory, a 512 MHz CPU, a 3.2 Megapixel camera, and a 480×360 pixel screen.  In addition the Curve 8900 has built-in GPS and the ability to geotag any photo taken with exact longitude and latitude coordinates.

With this kind of power and multimedia features you are now able to take photos on your smartphone, edit them, and upload them to photo sites and social networking sites for all of your friends and family to see.  All of this can be done while on the go and in the spur of the moment.  This ultimately means that more of your photos end up online for all to share.  Before you would have to remember to copy the photos to your computer and then edit and upload them.

screen1Let us start with editing.  Right now editing photos on a smart phone is not too sophisticated.  For example Picture Magic for the BlackBerry allows you to add images and text to an existing photo.  This kind of editing allows for adding funny captions to photos and saving a new version of the photo to send to your friends or upload to web sites.

Now that you have added a cute caption to your photo, it is time to get it online or send it to your friends.  Most smartphones have standard options like sending photos via Bluetooth, MMS, or email.  On the BlackBerry you can also send a photo to a BlackBerry Messenger contact.  Many smartphones allow you to assign a photo as a caller ID picture.
