How to manage and share photos from your smartphone

Photo management is usually left to the computer. As smartphones become more powerful and sport larger resolution screens, some of those tools are starting to make their way to the mobile device.

To enable Geotagging on the BlackBerry for example, open the camera application, click the BlackBerry menu key and choose Options.  If your BlackBerry has built-in GPS or you are using a GPS puck via Bluetooth, you should see an option called Geotagging.  Change it to enabled.

Flickr is a very popular photo sharing site and they too have mobile clients.  In fact since Yahoo owns Flickr, you can upload photos to Flickr from within the Yahoo! Go application.  Yahoo! Go is a feature rich and visually appealing client that allows you to access many of the Yahoo! Features like your Yahoo! Mailbox, Sports scores, news, etc.  Yahoo! Go is available for BlackBerry, some LG phones, many Windows Mobile phones, many Sony Ericsson phones, Samsung phones, a few Motorola phones, and many Nokia phones.

If you don’t use Yahoo! Then there are more options.  A product called ShoZu allows you to upload photos to multiple web services including Flickr.  ShoZu clients are available for many different phones and smartphones including BlackBerry.  ShoZu on the BlackBerry is quite kludgy right now.  They seem to have done a direct Java export and have not customized it for the BlackBerry.  But it is still useable, just a little frustrating.

Flickr has its own options too.  They have clients for BlackBerry and Nokia N Series phones.  You can download them by going to http://www.flickr.com/tools/mobile/.
